Father Stephen Cochrane was ordained a Priest in 1998 in Saint Peter-in-Chains Roman Catholic Church, Ardrossan, for the Diocese of Galloway in south-west Scotland. After working for six years within Galloway, four of which as Parish Priest of Saint Joseph's, Stranraer, he was granted permission by his bishop, Bishop John Cunningham, to co-found a new religious community called The Brotherhood of the Holy Cross. In the autumn of 2004, His Grace, Archbishop Vincent Nichols, gave permission for the first Community House to be set up in the former convent attached to Sacred Heart church. In October 2005 Archbishop Nichols appointed Father Stephen Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish. Also since September 2007, Father Stephen has been the Visiting Priest Chaplain to Keele University.
